Why should I recover my sofa and loveseat instead of buying a new one?
The furniture that you already own may have a value to it that is hard to put a price tag on. Your furniture might fit in the space perfectly, it might be confortable, or it might have sentimental value. Frequently when you shop for new furniture to replace the old, you find out that the new ones you look at might be too wide, too soft, or just do not feel right. Often your sofa might just be right for you, and you do not realize it, until you try to replace it. Maybe the only thing wrong with your sofa is the fabric. Cheap new furniture is achieved by using inferior low-priced frames, fabric and padding.
Is it worth getting Grandma's sofa or chair recovered?
A well made frame is always a good value to reupholster. Older furniture is usually made from solid hardwood unlike much of the newer furniture being sold today.
Older Furniture Is normally made of hardwood framing, eight way hand tied coil springs, or heavy gauge sinuous springs, cotton or horsehair padding or superior high-density foam.
Newer Furniture Is normally made of inferior knotty woods, plywood or particle board, lightweight sinuous springs, and a lot less of them, low density foam, looks nice at first but breaks down after use.
